Grateful Dead poster Scranton Catholic Youth Center 1971 concert poster

Description

This is an original glossy-surface cardboard window card advertising the Grateful Dead performing in Scranton, Pennsylvania on Tuesday night, April 13, 1971. Notice that the poster promises "an exclusive three-hour performance." They alternated orange & blue ink but otherwise it’s a very straightforward advertising in what is known as a  “boxing style” poster.

There was heavy newspaper advertising for this show and several ads from the local paper are shown on our website entry for this poster. The show is available for a listen as Dave’s Picks #51

The Dead were on a Spring tour and in the days before and after this show also landed at Frankin & Marshall in Lancaster, Bucknell, Allegheny College, SUNY Cortland, and Princeton’s Dillon Gym which features the epic Pigpen “Lovelight” where he tried to sell the audience the “Brookln Bridge” Highly recommend….but I digress. This tour concluded with the famous set of shows at the Fillmore East April 25-29, 1971.
