John Pasche created this poster for the legendary S.T.P. ("Stones Touring Party") concert tour of United States and Canada in June and July of 1972 in support of Exile on Main St, released weeks earlier. It was the band's first performances in the United States since the infamous Altamont Free Concert in December 1969. It was also part of a tour-America-every-three-years rotation that the group established in 1969 and maintained through 1981.

The tour ended with four shows over three consecutive nights at New York City's Madison Square Garden. The last show on July 26th, Jagger's birthday, had balloons and confetti falling from Madison Square Garden's ceiling and Jagger blowing the candles off a huge cake. Pies were also wheeled in, leading to a pie fight between the Rolling Stones and the audience.

Following the final performance, a party was held in Jagger's honor by Ahmet Ertegun at the St. Regis in New York. Guests included Bob Dylan, Woody Allen, Andy Warhol, the Capote entourage, and Zsa Zsa Gabor, while the Count Basie Orchestra provided musical entertainment.

Artist John Pasche drew inspiration for this poster from travel posters of the 1920s and 1930s. He did 3 concert posters for the Stones as well as the cover of Goat’s Head Soup but his real contribution to graphic history was the "Tongue and Lip Design" logo in 1970, which he was paid just £50, but he sold his copyright to the Stones for £26,000 in 1984.The design first appeared on inner sleeve and cover of Sticky Fingers album. In August 2008, the design was voted the greatest band logo of all time in an online poll conducted by Gigwise.

The poster itself is rather large and thin and so to protect it we had it professionally linen-backed. This "base" acts as a support for framing the poster without having to touch any part of the piece in the process and also preserves it against potential tearing and folding and the PH friendly glues act to neutralize the yellowing effects of oxidation on paper.
