Description

This is a first printing of a beautifully composed black and white collage by Bonnie MacLean. MacLean had worked and taken classes at Pratt Institute and was married to Bill Graham when Graham had a massive falling-out with his principal poster designer, Wes Wilson. Bonnie MacLean stepped in and designed many beautiful swirling pieces and some now hang in San Francisco’s DeYoung Museum, the Brooklyn Museum and the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art collection among others.

MacLean took a hiatus from designing posters for nearly a year and a half while she cared for her young son and this marked her return. There are numerous images, airplanes, butterflies, and members of the Airplane, a large sketch presumably of Grace Slick and a nice shot of Jerry Garcia all against a lunar landscape. The lettering looks like chalk on a blackboard – and this was all before you could just select a font in Illustrator!
