This is an original/first print poster used to promote the opening night of a weeklong series of poetry readings at the Nourse Auditorium, a 1,687-seat venue and Glide Memorial Church in San Francisco. Billed as "Incredible Poetry", this event took place June 8, 1968, and featured Allen Ginsberg, Lawrence Ferlinghetti & Michael McClure. Poets read their own work and it was broadcast over KFPA in Berkeley, described as, “Poetry for the San Francisco rolling renaissance.”
June 8 was the day Robert Kennedy was buried as well as the day James Earl Ray was arrested for the assassination of Martin Luther King, Jr.. Ferlinghetti read his fourth book of poems, “The Secret Meaning of Things: Assassination Raga,"––on the death of Robert Kennedy––that night accompanied by a loud evening raga.
Victor Moscoso featured little hills of 3D block lettering to spell out the time, date and poets and included a little man and a die. The field of stars and lips reading “incredible,” are in more of a Peter Max or Yellow Submarine style than most of the Neon Rose posters and this was the 24th and final poster in the series. This poster is quite scarce and hard to find in great condition.
