This wild poster is signed by three of the Chambers Brothers (Joe, Willie, and George: “Pops”) as well as by Woodstock icon Richie Havens. Regarding the artwork, Lee Conklin reports that he was getting into yoga in 1968, and the reclining figure in BG122 has a ten-toe choir because the meditating artist "... felt my toes tingle and sing." The artwork is similar to the pencil sketch drawing of his first poster for Bill Graham in January, but this time included a purple overlay in the printing process.
The Chambers Brothers began as a gospel group that migrated to the burgeoning folk music movement in the early 1960’s. They played at the 1965 Newport Folk Festival when Bob Dylan “went electric,” which they began to do following the event as well.
The band had a major hit in the fall of 1968 with "Time Has Come Today", an 11-minute opus written by Joe and Willie Chambers and highlighted by echoing vocal effects and Brian Keenan's drumming which gave the song a psychedelic feel. "Time Has Come Today" was edited for release as a single and spent five consecutive weeks in September/October at #11 on the Billboard charts. The song contains the immortal line, “…and my soul’s been psychedelicized.”
