This colorful fan parking lot poster was meant to accompany the Dead and their fans to Albany and then down to Nassau Coliseum using the clever line from Truckin’, “New York, got the ways and means.”
The Dead had played some great shows in Albany the years before and in 1996 released a live CD of those shows known as “Dozin’ at the Knick.” This was the next year, 1991, generally considered the last of the “post-Jerry-coma renaissance years.”
Both Vince Welnick and Bruce Hornsby were playing together on stage with the Grateful Dead during the same time period. After the death of Brent Mydland in 1990, Bruce Hornsby joined the band as a guest keyboardist while Vince Welnick became the official full-time keyboardist. From September 1990 to March 1992, both Hornsby and Welnick played together during live performances, with Hornsby primarily playing piano and accordion, and Welnick on synthesizers and organ. This unique dual-keyboard setup added a distinctive sound to the Dead's performances during that era.
