This large blacklight poster juxtaposes bright orange day-glo fluorescent ink set off against the Beatles in black and adds flocking for that extra cool vintage feel. A flocked poster has black fibers that feel felt- or velvet-like. The black appears much darker than an ink with no glare and gives great contrast to the fluorescent UV reactive inks.

The poster is based on a cover photo from Life Magazine on July 24, 1967 and the article was called “The New Far-out Beatles,” when they were at the height of their fame. The photo of The Fab Four was taken by Henry Grossman at EMI Studios in Abbey Road. Life Magazine knew that this image would be extremely popular and created a poster to be used on newsstands to promote this issue. But it looks nothing like this one – wow!

The poster is stamped on the back with “The Establishment,” in El Monte CA, which is just west of Los Angeles. While LA did not have anywhere near the dance concert poster history or collecting culture, they went all-in on the commercial possibilities of selling headshop posters to teenagers and there were plenty of screen printers in LA doing just that.
