The Grateful Dead played Duke’s campus five times, the last show being on April 2, 1982 in Cameron Indoor Stadium. Duke was a popular stop for the group, which was famous for encouraging fans to record their lengthy concerts. While the Dead’s famous Wall of Sound did not make it’s official touring debut until the Cow Palace in March, 1974, throughout 1973 they were building toward that system and so this December 1973 show featured something pretty close to it.
